This afternoon Will came to record some more keyboard elements to five songs.
Nigel is great in grasping what I want to achieve and therefore got Will to play the right bits and pieces we were looking for.
Will is a very talented Torres Straight Islander, multi-instrumentalist (drums, bass, guitar, keyboard) and the only indigenous person in the team.
He quickly developed a good feel for the songs and we enjoyed together the little moments of brilliancy he had; unexpected tones, fillers, endings. Maybe many won’t even notice it when listening to the songs but I will notice and enjoy the memory with a smile.
The session started 1 hr later than planned due to a technical software problem and a missing computer driver. Although very embarrassing, everyone stayed calm and focused. It was almost about time something went wrong. There is hardly any project that does not face a problem at some stage.
Nigel wanted some Hammond organ sound for one song and I wasn’t sure whether I wanted that. Hammond organs remind me of old days, church sound and babbittry. At the end I let them try it. The result was much better than I expected. It is worthwhile trying before giving in to prejudice.

Am heutigen Nachmittag war Will da, um fuenf Lieder mit Keyboardsounds anzureichern.
Nigel ist gut darin zu verstehen, was ich mit der Instrumentierung erreichen will. Und er ist gut darin, dass Gewuenschte aus den Musikern herauszuholen.
Will ist ein sehr talentierter Multi-Instrumentalist (drums, keyboard, guitar, bass) von den Torre Straight Inseln und der einzige indigene Musiker im Team. Wenn man doch nur solche Leute als Bandmitglieder haette! Um sie zu bekommen braucht man aber erst einmal bezahlte Auftritte. Nur aus Lust und Liebe machen das nur Teenager. Egal, Will hat sich schnell in die Lieder einfuehlen koennen und hatte ein paar kleine, aber geniale Ideen. Ein origineller Einstieg oder unerwarteter Tonverlauf hier, ein super Ende dort. Scheinbar einfach, auf den Punkt – kurz brilliant. Viele werden das spaeter vielleicht nicht mal heraushoeren. Ich aber werde es hoeren und dann mit einem zufriedenen Schmunzeln bedenken.
Nigel liess Will auch etwas Hammond Orgelsound einspielen. Ich war erst total dagegen. Ich verbinde einen ganz bestimmten Sound und reines Spiessertum damit. Ich habe sie es dennoch ausprobieren lassen und bin nun erstaunlicherweise recht zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Es lohnt sich also erst einmal auf die Profis zu hoeren, etwas auszutesten bevor man sich den Vorurteilen hingibt.
