Kirk joined us for adding accordion and piano tracks to some of the songs.
Kirk is a bit of a character but fun to work with. Lots of laughs, lots of teasing between a Pom, an Aussie and a German.
Kirk was busy with adding atmosphere and colour to two songs with his accordions and to another three with his keyboard. Especially for the song Yarmouk his piano play was crucial.
You know you have done it right when you experience these little goose bump moments. When Kirk then mentioned “this is a hell of a good song” I moved onto cloud nine for a while.
I so love doing this!
Later on in the afternoon it was my turn again.
The two remaining songs from yesterday needed my guitar play.
We had recorded them before when Nigel offered me a free session so we could get to know each other and I actually liked the recording.
But of course Nigel found that they were just trial recordings and now we would be doing the real thing. And that for sure I could do even better now. So I found myself again doing lots of barre chords and working hard to avoid mistakes, buzzes and squeaks.
Sometimes I wondered whether I would be getting it completely right at all. There are moments when one just wants to leave the studio and never touch a guitar again.
Anyway, technology will take care of impurities. When you break down recordings of high end studio session you still find those, says Nigel. Well, he should know. He’s been in that world before. More about this another time.

Kirk kam heute dazu, um mit Akkordeon und Keyboard fuenf Liedern Atmosphaere and Farbe zu geben.
Ich liebe diese Momente. Wenn es Anzeichen von Gaensehaut an der einen oder anderen Stelle gibt, weiss man das man auf dem richtigen Weg ist.
Kirk ist ein wenig ein Unikum. Er ist eigentlich schon in Rente, liebt aber die Studioarbeit. Sehr gefreut hat es mich, dass er meine Lieder gelobt hat und viel Spass beim Einspielen hatte. Es gelang uns sogar etwas aus Kirk herauszuholen, was er glaubte gar nicht so gut zu koennen – klassische Pianotoene.
Am Nachmittag war ich dann noch mal dran, um die gestern nicht mehr geschafften zwei Stuecke Gitarrentrack einzuspielen.
Ein wenig hatte ich gehofft mit einer frueheren Version beider Songs arbeiten zu koennen. Diese waren das Ergebnis einer kostenlosen Studiosession, die mir Nigel angeboten hatte, damit wir uns beide besser kennenlernen konnten.
Aber das liess Nigel natuerlich nicht zu. Das war ja nur ein Test, jetzt ginge es ums Ganze und ausserdem koenne ich das doch auch noch besser spielen, meinte Nigel.
Ergo musste ich mich erneut den Barregriffen widmen und so lange Teile wiederholen bis jeglichen Brummen oder Saitengequietsche verschwunden oder maximal minimiert war.
Aber was klage ich eigentlich; ich habe die Lieder doch selbst so komponiert.
