The project is slowly coming to an end. We had Rudi come into the studio last Friday to put down some horn tracks. Rudi added different saxophone sounds (alto, tenor, soprano) to a few songs. Rudi moved from Switzerland to Australia about 35 years ago. Funny, we actually did not speak German with each other. He seemed more comfortable with English.

He used to play in several bands and do many gigs per week. He’s now more or less retired and picks the work he wants to do. Rudi is easy to work with and will not stop until he is happy with the result too. If you want a professional horn player, Rudi is your man. Worth his money.

The sound and feel he created made get goosebumps. I was very much tempted to let him do additional tracks for other songs as well. But then it comes down to time and money…

Next step is getting the right mix for all recorded songs. Some preliminary mixes sound very promising.

Das Projekt geht langsam dem Ende zu. Letzten Freitag kam Rudi ins Studio um einige Lieder mit Saxophonklaenge zu bereichern. Rudi ist vor ca. 35 Jahren von der Schweiz nach Australien ausgewandert und hat jahrelang seine Broetchen als Musiker verdient. Heute, mit ueber 60, nimmt er nur noch an zu was er Lust hat. Gott sei Dank kommt er wenn Nigel ruft. Es hat Spass mit ihm gemacht. Das ein oder andere Mal hat sein Spiel bei mir Gaensehaut erzeugt.

Am liebsten haette ich ihn gleich noch fuer ein paar andere Lieder was einspielen lassen, wenn da nicht die Sache mit Zeit und Geld waere… Und das Arrangement dieser Lieder war ja auch schon abgeschlossen. So bleiben die Lieder auch angenehm unterschiedlich. Eigentlich haetten wir prima Deutsch sprechen koennen. Haben wir aber seltsamerweise nicht. Rudi schien sich wohler mit Englisch zu fuehlen. Nach 35 Jahren wohl auch kein Wunder.

Naechster Schritt ist das Abmischen aller Lieder. Was ich bisher schon gehoert habe klingt sehr viel versprechend.
