The Man behind Gecko Music

Frank Frikker – Unique, Different, Critical

Frank Frikker is a German born Australian musician and singer/songwriter. His songs are a mix of storytelling, ballads, humor, poetry and satire performed in a blend of folk, folk-rock, blues, jazz, country and world music elements. The music is selected to support the story or topic of the songs.

His career as a musician had to navigate a few obstacles at first (his parents thought he was not talented at all after having to endure his experiments on the recorder flute), but that didn’t stop him. At age 14 he was mesmerized by a guitar playing cousin in Hungary and knew he had found his calling. Fascinated by the sounds he pushed for his first own guitar. Lessons at a music college were followed by first stage appearances. After experimenting with some bands, it became clear that songwriting and storytelling were his real passion.

Influenced by traditional European (e.g. Reinhard Mey, Rainhard Fendrich) and US singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Leonard Cohen, John Prine, and many others he developed his own style of guitar picking and arranging songs.

Making a management career in a large company and many years of assignments in overseas (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Korea, Hong Kong and Japan), left little space for writing songs and playing guitar or blues harp. Nevertheless, while living in Seoul/South Korea, Frank and two other German expatriates founded the band “S(e)oul Brothers” and produced a CD which has been sold by the thousands to the expat and business community.

Today – after leaving the corporate world and resigning from his last overseas assignment in Japan, moving to Australia in 2004 – Frank is living in Brisbane’s North. Since living in the land Down Under he finally found time for songwriting and professional recording again. He is an integral part of the local music scene, first in Cairns/Port Douglas area (president of the Clink Theater, 3 Port Unplugged Festivals), now North of Brisbane as a producer and organizer of regional music events as well as being a performer with his band.

After having released his first ever solo CD “Tomorrow I will be ok” in 2011 he launched his 2nd CD “Road Closed” in September 2013 compiled of his latest ballads, poems and satire. His 3rd album “Yarmouk” has been released in 2017. His award-winning music video “The Leaf Blower Anthem” (short film festival in Queensland, Australia) can be found on Youtube.

Frank and his band Wolf’s Tales used the Covid-19 restricted time to finalize, arrange and record his 4th album “Anyway” at Pegasus Studios in Cairns and in Brisbane.
