Songwriting

First ever co-songwriting project: Enough

I am a member of Apra Amcos, the Australian music rights management organisation. So are many other musicians, composer and writers. Some months ago they offered to participate in a co-songwriting project. I applied and was teamed up with Leah Chynoweth-Tidy (Kissing the flint). Leah is a Queensland girl presently living in Scotland with her husband.

I had no idea what to expect of a co-songwriting process with another musician I never met. This project turns out to be quite exiting. I had an idea about what the song that we are expected to create could be about. Leah agreed and we both started to work on lyrics and melodies.

I was worried that we would develop ideas in opposite directions but after only a few zoom meetings we agreed on a song concept, the story, melody, chord progression and then we merged and fine tuned lyric drafts.

Next step is me working with my band on tempo, rhythm and instrumentation. Then we will see how the lyrics fit into the arrangement which might lead to some more tweaking here and there.

We do not yet know of course what the final result will be but we both know already: This is a fun and nicely progressing project. And we have a song name already too: “Enough”. For more watch this space.

  1. It’s been a fantastic experience working with you for the first time, Frank and this is going to be a great song about a very important societal subject! Looking forward to the next phase and working on building it to final full bloom with you 🙂
